Pituitary disease
Your pituitary gland is an important hormone secreting organ which is located in your brain. You can be diagnosed with pituitary problems at any age but you symptoms may be quite vague. As they are also quite rare and specialist, there may be a delay in getting your diagnosis.
Your pituitary gland can become enlarged or swollen and if so you may get symptoms of headaches. In addition your vision can sometimes be affected. Your body’s production of important hormones can become too high or too low. Alternatively your pituirary gland can shrink and you can develop low levels of some hormones.
If you are suspected of having a pituitary problem you will need to be referred to a specialist like me. It is a complex gland so sometimes you need several different types of specialists to be involved in your treatment.
